This is the first comparison I thought of - both have big Hispanic populations, lots of bars, townhouses, small shops, etc.

I'd say this is pretty accurate. Both have a lot of townhouses and shops, though CH has new big box retail, yuppies, and condos, and the Mission has more bars.

it's really not. Columbia Heights is more of a residential neighborhood with townhouses and apartment buildings, plus some new retail - Target, Best Buy, restaurants. The Financial District is a center of world finance with big skyscrapers. Almost no comparison.
