Ballston, Virginia Square, or Clarendon areas of Arlington are good. Depending on what you want to pay per month rent wise will determine the proximity to the metro.
Capitol Hill, of course, is home to some of the nations most famous landmarks.
But, for the most part, it's largely a residential neighborhood. You will find 19th century manor houses, Federal townhouses, small frame dwellings, and ornate Italianate bracketed houses.

In Adams Morgan there are many immigrant communities.
People from Africa, Asia South and Central America which gives this part of DC a Global village feel with many restaurants that have very different culinary styles.
