Morningside Heights is quite unlike the inner Richmond because the Columbia University affiliation does not match the residential / Chinese character of the inner Richmond

it's really not. Columbia Heights is more of a residential neighborhood with townhouses and apartment buildings, plus some new retail - Target, Best Buy, restaurants. The Financial District is a center of world finance with big skyscrapers. Almost no comparison.

Murray Hill in New York (Manhattan) vs. Marina in San Francisco

Both areas consist of many young, 20-30 somethings that are career minded yet like to frequently socialize on the town. Murray Hill may be a bit more "post college-feeling" yet if moving from one city to another someone may like the instant social vibe.
